Many medi-spas advertise cheap prices "per unit." We are transparent about how much neuromodulator you are getting. When we say "unit," we are referring to the actual unit of neuromodulator received. A standard Botox vial, for example, has 100 units of Botox in it. We reconstitute this (add carrier fluid to the powder), just like everyone else, but unlike many medi-spas, when we say you are getting "30 units" you are receiving 30% of the Botox in that 100 unit vial.
Many medi-spas will advertise a low $ "per unit," but a lot of times they are referring to their own arbitrary volume. How much Botox or Dysport is in that "unit?" It may only have a fraction of actual neuromodulator in it. In our case, if we say you are getting 1 unit of Botox, you are receiving exactly 1% of a 100 unit vial. At some medi-spas, you may be receiving a fraction of that.
At Ecker Dermatology, when we say "unit," you know exactly what you are getting.
The face skin typically begins to lose its youthful, fresh glow in the mid-thirties and forties. At Ecker Dermatology, we perform Broad Spectrum Light (IPL) therapy to create firmer, younger-looking skin in a series of quick, painless, non-invasive treatments. This specialized process has been proven to stop the skin from aging. The foundation of this is established in the well-known and often cited study at Dr. Ecker's alma matter, Stanford University, Rejuvenation of gene expression pattern of aged human skin by broadband light treatment (J Invest Dermatol, 2013, 133(2), 394-402; image below copyright J Invest Dermatol, 2013, BY-NC-SA 3.0). With this study as a springboard, Dr. Ecker's protocols achieve impressive, long-standing results.
What is Broad Spectrum Light?
Also known as a photofacial, or photorejuvenation in general for any area of the body, broad spectrum light is a quick energy based treatment utilizing specialized filters and light to penetrate deep into the skin layers. Photorejuvenation produced by this treatment causes collagen and blood vessels beneath the epidermis (outer layer of skin) to constrict. This reduces redness and age lines and helps minimize the signs of aging.
What Is a Broad Spectrum Light Treatment Like?
You will be provided with protective eyewear before treatment to protect your eyes from bright flashes of light. A cool gel may be applied to the treatment area to help cool the epidermis and to lubricate the handpiece used in performing the procedure. Our facial rejuvenation expert will apply brief pulses of light to the skin in a procedure that can take from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the extent of treatment needed in your case. Most patients experience very little discomfort during the procedure. You will feel a warm sensation and may feel a light "snap" with the pulses of light. Ice rollers may be applied to soothe the skin following treatment.
